Occupational Health Indicators

Illinois Occupational Surveillance Program

Each year through our Illinois Occupational Surveillance Program we compile 25 occupational health indicators that provide a broad overview of state of occupational health in Illinois.  These indicators were developed by a broad groups of occupational health experts in the U.S. in collaboration with the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) and National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH).  The annual report provided on this website provides detailed information for Illinois.

In the full report, data for Illinois are presented here for 16 of the 25 indicators. Where possible, data are compared with other states and national findings to help situate the reader in a national context. States for comparison were chosen because of regional similarity and by availability of data for comparable years. Since occupational injuries and illnesses are preventable, these data are intended to provide a resource for priority-setting by stakeholders charged with the goal of prevention in the realms of occupational health and safety. Strengths and limitations of each indicator presented here are mostly reproduced from those listed in the CSTE How-to-Guide (CSTE 2019).
